The future in San Francisco lasted less than two games with QB Trey Lance done for the year, but how does that affect the 49ers betting odds?
Lance, seen as the next great star under center in the Bay Area, took over the starting job for 2022 from Jimmy Garoppolo, but things did not go well.
First off Lance and the 49ers, heavily favored by seven points, lost their opener 19-10 to the Chicago Bears at a rain-drenched Soldier Field.
Then on Sunday Lance exited the 27-7 win over Seattle in the first half after fracturing an ankle, He will require surgery and is done for the season per HC Kyle Shanahan.
We told you a couple of weeks ago that the decision by the Niners to restructure Garoppolo’s contract and keep him on the roster was a masterstroke. We just didn’t realize how quickly we’d be proved right.
Now San Fran has a proven winner back at the controls on a contract (just $6.5million guaranteed) which is massively team-friendly. Not trading Jimmy G was very very sensible, and the Niners will now reap the benefits. Garoppolo threw for 154 yards and a score in relief of Lance on Sunday.
So what are the odds of the 49ers having success now in 2022.
49ers Super Bowl Odds
No panic at all from online sportsbooks – Garoppolo has already taken the Niners to a Super Bowl and an NFC title game. And had them ahead late in both. It’s not like he is an unheralded rookie.
San Fran is actually shorter odds to win it all in Arizona next February now that it is 1-1 and Jimmy G is back under center. It is a +2000 (bet $100 to win $2000) shot having gone into the Seattle game at +2500.
49ers Odds to win the NFC Championship
Similar story here, no panic at all. The 49ers are +1000 odds to represent the NFC at Super Bowl LVII. Exactly the same as they were after that loss in Chicago.
49ers Odds to win the NFC West
To have postseason success, first off San Fran must have success in a brutally competitive NFC West.
Right now the Niners are +170 second favorites with BetMGM and Borgata behind the Super Bowl champion Rams (+125). All four times in the West are currently 1-1 in the standings.
What is next for the 49ers?
The next two weeks should give us a pretty good idea of where the Niners are at in 2022. First they face Russell Wilson and the Broncos in Week 3, before a huge divisional matchup vs the Rams in Week 4.
