Dallas is now widely available at +3500 to win Super Bowl LVI after losing a thrilling season opener 31-29 in Tampa on Thursday night.
Dak Prescott threw for 403 yards and three TDs to show he is absolutely back to 100 percent after that horrific ankle injury in 2020, and the shoulder problem which sidelined him in preseason.
Dallas led 29-28 deep into the final minute of the game, before Tom Brady engineered yet another game-winning drive to kick off his latest NFL season.
Super Bowl updates
The Cowboys had been +3500 with DraftKings before kickoff to end that now 25-year Super Bowl drought. And Thursday’s loss led a string of other online sportsbooks to make them them same odds.
Tampa meanwhile had been +700 second favorite for Super Bowl LVI behind Kansas City (+500), and BetMGM and Borgata retained the Bucs at the same odds post-game.
In reality neither team has changed very much as a result of Thursday’s event. Both were impressive offensively while we already knew Dallas is struggling on the defensive side of the ball. The Cowboys at least did create turnovers.
Brady, matching Prescott almost yard for yard, looked sharp as he connected on 32 of 50 passes for 379 yards and 3 scores.
Dallas did cover the spread in Thursday’s game. It had been around a 6.5-point underdog when betting opened after the schedule reveal in May. But that spread moved to 8.5 on Thursday with the Cowboys pretty friendless.
The money line had Tampa a -400 favorite with Dallas a +340 underdog. You were not getting rich betting the Bucs there.
In terms of the over/under on points the final total was 60, well above the Vegas line of 52 points. Nice work if you took the over.
Dak CPOY favorite
Prescott’s impressive showing only cemented his position as favorite to be the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year coming off that awful injury which ended his 2020 season.
Dak is now best odds of +150 with PointsBet, Unibet and SugarHouse to win the award on the eve of the Super Bowl next year.
Prescott meanwhile is +1800 with bet365 to be the league MVP in 2021, while Brady is best value at +1200 with FanDuel and PointsBet.
And finally, that PointsBet offer – the chance to double your money from $10 to $20 if Brady threw for at least one yard. We think he just about managed that…
