Eagles vs Texans TNF Predictions & best bets
Philadelphia Eagles vs Houston Texans (Thursday November 3, 8.15pm, Amazon Prime Video)
Week 9 kicks off with the undefeated Eagles heading into Houston as a 13.5-point favorite. A huge spread but one that is difficult to dispute.
Philly is coming off a dominant 35-13 defeat of Pittsburgh while the Texans gave up more than 300 yards on the ground in a loss to Derrick Henry and the Titans.
Here are our free Thursday Night Football Predictions for Week 9:
Jalen Hurts Over 40.5 Rushing Yards (-125, PointsBet)
Hurts was sensational through the air on Sunday vs Pittsburgh, throwing for 285 yards and 4 scores, three of them to the terrific A.J. Brown. By contrast he hasn’t seen the volume of touches in the run game recently that he saw at the start of the season.
We like that approach to change Thursday night though as Jalen and co come up against the NFL’s absolute worst run defense. Nobody is more porous vs the run, remember that the Titans just rumbled for more than 300 yards.
We expect Houston to get a heavy dose of Jalen on option plays early in the game, along with the other members of that dominant Eagles backfield. Take him to cover a 40.5 line that looks very manageable.
Philadelphia Eagles to lead after every quarter (-105, PointsBet)
The Eagles have been terrific in putting games to bed early in 2022, running up the score in the first half and then being able to step off the gas just a little after intermission.
Houston is coming off a game where it was utterly dominated by a superior rushing attack, only a fool would expect different on Thursday night. Philly can kill the clock and Houston’s will before enjoying the second half in the knowledge that it is headed for 8-0.
Dameon Pierce Anytime Touchdown (+160, PointsBet)
Pierce is pretty much Houston’s only offensive weapon and he gets an insane amount of volume on the ground and a steady dose of targets in the passing game.
The reason Pierce – who has 3 TDs so far in 2022 – is in plus odds territory here is the matchup, but it is possible to run on the Eagles. And they will be be without run-stuffing behemoth Jordan Davis after he sprained an ankle in the win over Pittsburgh. Let’s see how that Eagles front matches up with Pierce when there is no Davis in the middle.
We expect a comfortable Philly win, but still like the potential for Pierce to eventually find the endzone, likely in garbage time. It doesn’t matter when, as long as it happens people.
Dallas Goedert Over 45.5 Receiving Yards (-115, BetMGM)
Goedert is a terrific weapon for the Eagles, and his ability to get open in the middle of the field just gives another dimension to an innovative attack which has so many different ways to unlock defenses.
He has been excellent so far in 2022, averaging a shade over 60 yards per game. It’s likely he gets his normal healthy share of targets on Thursday night, so the line at 45.5 looks like a buy to us.
