Gervonta Davis might be the most exciting boxer on the planet, and the world gets another chance to watch him Sunday vs Isaac Cruz – and we have predictions for you people.
‘Tank’, now 27, remains unbeaten at 25-0 with 24 of those wins coming inside distance. Notably that relatively recent spectacular uppercut to put Leo Santa Cruz to sleep in October 2020. Find it on YT and watch it – a thing of brutal beauty.
This time the 23-year-old Mexican Cruz (22-1-1) is in the opposite corner and while he’s a late replacement for ‘Rolly’ Romero, it would be crazy just to write him off. Look what happened to Teofimo Lopez just last weekend when he fell to Aussie underdog Geoge Kambosos Jr.
So, let’s get right to it.
Gervonta vs Cruz Predictions & Latest Odds
You can argue that Cruz replacing Romero actually makes this a better and more interesting fight. Pretty good argument too.
Cruz – known as ‘Pitbull’ – is ranked in the top 10 at lightweight (this one is at 135lbs) by all of the major governing bodies. And like we said, remember Teofimo. A lesson for all hot favorites.
Isaac likes to get inside and rough things up, but that of course might mean he’s to close for comfort. That rocket ‘Tank’ exploded off the chin of Santa Cruz last October should tell you that.
Gervonta – already a multi-weight world champion, took his last time in his most recent fight before stopping Marcos Barrios in 11. But the result – as in most ‘Tank’ fights – was the same.
You have to go back to 2014 and a six-rounder vs to find the only time Davis has been taken the distance. It’s almost a betting certainty based on the stats that he wins inside distance. 24 from 25 = 96 percent knockout ratio.
Gervonta is a -1100 (bet $1100 to win $100) favorite on the money line with Cruz trading at +800 (bet $100 to win $800). Those are the best odds about the two men – available with FanDuel. But they are not for us, we look at the props for our value.
We can see only one eventual outcome – Gervonta by KO or TO – but even the odds on that are too skinny for us (-400) so we’ll look at the total rounds for our bet today. We expect Cruz to put up a respectable showing before those ‘Tank’ bombs start to take a heavy toll. Bet the bout to go Over 6.5 rounds at a much more reasonable -115.
