The English Premier League showcases one of its marquee matchups on Sunday, and we have all the Man City vs Man United intel you need – including a big-game prediction or two.
These two local rivals are in very different positions as they prepare to meet in one of the most bitter rivalries in world soccer.
For years City was the downtrodden little guy as United dominated the English game, winning cup after cup.
But three seismic moments in the last 15 years have changed all that:
- City was bought by Abu Dhabi in 2008 – injecting unbelievable amounts of cash into building the best team that limitless money can buy.
- That money paid off in the final seconds of the final day of the 2011-2012 season with that Sergio Agueroooooooo moment as City pipped United to the Premier League title.
- In May 2013 Sir Alex Ferguson retired as United manager, ending more than two decades of constant success at Old Trafford.
Since Ferguson retired, United has been miserable – blowing billions of dollars on transfer fees and new managers, but failing to find the right formula to return to the top of the Premier League.
City meanwhile just continues to dominate, with Pep Guardiola presiding over four title successes since his arrival in Manchester.
This year we have a couple of notable new boys to the rivalry – City’s incredible forward Erling Haaland and United coach Erik Ten Hag. They just add to what is always an intoxicating mix when these two clubs meet.
Who will have bragging rights after this next meeting? We have all the latest intel heading towards the big day.
Man City vs Man United Prediction
City are red-hot heading into this one, while United themselves come in on the back of four straight wins.
The Blues were utterly dominant in last season’s meetings, absolutely destroying United in particular during hte game at the Etihad.
We expect City to win again but we do expect it to be closer than last season’s 4-1, and we expect United to find the net.
We have found you a value bet, and it is City to win and both teams to score at a sweet +150 (bet $100 to win $150).

Starting Lineups & Injury List
Both clubs were holding their breath during the international break, hoping their star players would not return injured from playing for their countries. A tale as old as time.
For United, Cristiano Ronaldo was the headline hurt, picking up a busted nose and a black eye in Portugal’s game over the weekend. He will be good to go for the derby at City on Sunday though.
For City there is good news defensively with Aymeric Laporte back in full training, along with Kyle Walker. Kalvin Phillips will miss Sunday’s game though as he is booked in for surgery on a shoulder injury.
Recent Matchups
Last season City – as so often in recent years – dominated in its derby meetings with United. It coasted to a 2-0 win at Old Trafford in November 2021 before absolutely obliterating the Red Devils 4-1 at the Etihad in March 2021.
