Geno Smith remains favorite in the NFL Comeback Player of the Year odds in 2022, but not by much after Christian McCaffrey stepped up his pursuit of the Seattle QB.
Run CMC was again terrific as the 49ers clinched a playoff berth and the NFC West division title with a 21-13 win over Geno and Seattle on Thursday Night Football.
McCaffrey ran for 108 yards and a score and caught 6 balls for another 30 yards in an excellent road win for the Niners. As a result there was a seismic change in the CPOY Futures line.
A week ago Geno was a hot -900 favorite with McCaffrey on +900. Now it is +100 Geno, +250 McCaffrey. A massive swing as the regular season approaches the business end.
It is pretty much a two-horse race right now if you believe sportsbooks, with a big gape to the third man in the market, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley. A longtime favorite, Barkley is now out to +2200.

Who won NFL Comeback Player Of The Year?
If you’re betting on this kind of stuff, always a great idea to look at the previous winners – and what they went through. The last 10 winners of the award were:
- 2021 Joe Burrow (CB, Cincinnati Bengals)
- 2020 Alex Smith (QB, Washington Football Team)
- 2019 Ryan Tannehill (QB, Tennessee Titans)
- 2018 Andrew Luck (QB, Indianapolis Colts)
- 2017 Keenan Allen (WR, Los Angeles Chargers)
- 2016 Jordy Nelson (WR, Green Bay Packers)
- 2015 Eric Berry (S, Kansas City Chiefs)
- 2014 Rob Gronkowski (TE, New England Patriots)
- 2013 Philip Rivers (QB, Los Angeles Chargers)
- 2012 Peyton Manning (QB, Denver Broncos)
So again with most awards in this league, a bias towards QBs with six of the last 10 including the last four.
