Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill and his Minnesota Vikings counterpart Justin Jefferson continue to swap the position of favorite to become OPOY in 2022. This time it is Jefferson back on top.
Jefferson reclaimed top spot on the Futures line by setting a Vikings single-game regular-season record for receiving yards with 223 in Sunday’s loss to the Lions in Detroit. That seems pretty harsh on Tyreek, who scored long TDs on the ground and through the air in a 23-17 loss to the Chargers on Sunday Night Football. He did end that game injured though and any missed time would really hurt his OPOY bid.
Tyreek is not even second favorite now – that accolade goes to Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts (+275). He was sensational again as his team clinched a playoff berth with a 48-22 rout of the New York Giants.

Who won OPOY?
Two players hold the record for the most OPOY titles – RBs Earl Campbell and Marshall Faulk. Both men have three awards – and each of them won their three in consecutive years. Two-time winners include Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice and Terrell Davis.

In short this award is much fairer to positions outside of QB while MVP has become totally fixated on the most important position in the game. QBs have won MVP in 17 of the last 20 seasons while it’s only 9 of the last 20 for OPOY. Less than 50% success rate.
The crucial bit here is that postseason play is NOT included. This is all about regular-season achievements.
