After three agonizing near misses, we are back to take another shot at the EPL soccer parlay bullseye this weekend. Paul Arizona will not be denied.
Leeds United ruined our bid for parlay success by failing to score at Brighton last week. That misery was made all the more frustrating by Chelsea doing what they need to by scoring over 1.5 goals at home to Fulham. Oh, and Crystal Palace v Manchester City delivering Under 2.5 Goals as we had confidently predicted.
We’ve overcome the pain now though, and here we go for another rollercoaster weekend in what they call the best league in the world…
Why Paul’s Parlay?
Why should you trust Paul’s Parlays? Pretty simple really – years and years of experience.
Paul Arizona is soccer expert par excellence – there are few better. He cut his teeth writing for some of the biggest soccer brands in Europe, and now he’s taken his talents across the pond.
This column is the first of many, and we’ll keep a running check of how he is performing overall. Remember, our job is to help you win cash…
And now to the games.
Saturday May 8: Leeds v Tottenham (1230 ET, NBCSN)
We go back to the well one more time with Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa. The Whites haven’t scored in their last two, against Manchester United and Brighton, but have never gone three league matches without scoring under their Argentine coach – a run which stretches back three seasons and more than 100 games.
Tottenham seem to be playing with newfound style and freedom with Jose Mourinho’s defensive tactics now in the rear view mirror. A change perfectly illustrated by Gareth Bale’s hat-trick against Sheffield United last week. I expect this to be an offensive contest between two sides with largely nothing to play for, but plenty of weapons to utilize.
Both teams to score is the play here at -167 and, if you’re a little braver, opt for over 3.5 goals at +166 as well.
OddsCritic Pick: Both teams to score at -167
Sunday May 9: Aston Villa v Man Utd (0905 ET, NBCSN)
Expect this one to be a typical United road game – assuming it actually goes ahead, given what happened at Old Trafford last weekend.
United has an unbeaten away record to protect but a Europa League final to focus on, with its tired bodies having played Roma in Italy on Thursday. Villa has been the great entertainer of late, with its last five league matches featuring Over 2.5 goals, but expect United to do what they do best and close the game down. Chelsea, Arsenal, Leeds, and Liverpool have all had to endure attritional draws against the Red Devils this season, and this could another.
Despite Villa’s good goalscoring form, we’ll go against perceived wisdom here and bet Under 2.5 goals, which is available at a healthy +110.
OddsCritic Pick: Under 2.5 goals @ +110
Sunday May 9: Arsenal v West Brom (1400 ET, NBCSN)
Arsenal’s stats at home after playing in the Europa League on a Thursday are consistently dreadful. Fulham, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa have all been able to take something from them and while WBA are virtually down and out, they do have some attacking weapons.
Attacking at home isn’t something Arsenal are particularly good at. Bottom-half performers for shots, shots on target and goals. Add in that they endured a grueling match with Villarreal Thursday, and it’s easy to make a case for the road team getting something out of this matchup.
OddsCritic Pick: West Brom double chance at +190
